1. Make a pattern caterpillar
An adult should draw a number of circles in a line similar to the caterpillar below.
Ask your child to pick two colours and make a pattern on the caterpillar.
Ask your child to call out the colours on the caterpillar - eg. Blue, red, blue, red, blue, red etc.
2. Patterns with jelly tots.
Multicolored sweets such as jelly tots are great for exploring patterns.
The first task is to sort the sweets into groups of the same colour (this is an important early mathematical skill too so encourage your child to sort the sweets into groups)
Next ask your child to pick two colours and make a pattern like I did below
