2D Shapes

We have been working very hard on learning our shapes over the last few weeks. Last but not least we have the square.

A square has 4 sides. It is special because all the sides are the same.

We see lots of squares in the world around us. Have a square hunt at home. Here's what I found today.

Now that we know all our shapes there are lots of fun activities and games we can play with them.

Shape monsters is an online matching game. Don't forget to ask your child to name the shape each time.

Here is another activity you could try using some things you might have at home. This activity also helps develop fine motor skills.

You will need:

  • Cardboard - I used cereal boxes
  • Crayons or paint
  • Clothes pegs
  •  Scissors
  • A grown up to do the cutting

Ask a grown up to cut out our four shapes from the cardboard.

Decorate your shapes using paints or crayons

When finished, talk about the different shapes. You could try counting the sides together on each.
Then take your clothes pegs and ask your child to place them all along the sides of the shape. When you finish, take them off and start on the next shape.
